Cricket Super Over drops you straight into the hardest job in cricket: chasing a target in a short burst with very little room for error. Every match gives you 12 balls and 2 wickets, and every win sends you to a bigger chase. Big hitting helps, but what really wins matches is good timing and smart shot selection. This guide explains how the game decides your runs and how to bat more consistently.

How Cricket Super Over Works

  • Each match is a chase: score the target off 12 balls before you lose 2 wickets.
  • The first target is 18. It rises by 6 each match up to 48 in Match 6, then by 2 per match until it stops at 56.
  • Your final score is the total runs you make across every match in the run, so each win adds to your score.
  • You are out if a catch is taken in the deep or if you miss and the ball hits the stumps.

The game shows "Need X off Y balls" before every delivery. Keep an eye on it, because the required rate tells you how much risk you need to take.

Controls: Swing and Direction

On a phone, tap the screen to swing. Where you tap sets the shot direction:

  • Left third of the screen: off-side shot.
  • Middle: straight shot down the ground.
  • Right third: leg-side shot.

On a keyboard, press Space, Up or W to swing. Hold Left (or A) while swinging for the off side, or hold Right (or D) for the leg side. With no arrow held, you play straight. For the first few balls of Match 1, the game shows these three zones on screen to help you learn them.

Timing Is Everything

After each swing the game grades your timing: PERFECT, GOOD, EARLY, LATE, or TOO EARLY / TOO LATE for a complete miss. The grade affects your result much more than anything else:

TimingWhat usually happens
PerfectMostly sixes, otherwise a four. No risk of a catch.
GoodFours, twos and singles, with an occasional six and a small chance of a catch.
Early / LateSingles, dots and edges. One in five or more is caught.
MissDot ball, or bowled if the ball is on the stumps.

Swing as the ball arrives at the bat, not when the bowler lets go. Watch the ball's path, not the bowler. Early players tend to tap as soon as the ball bounces; let it come a fraction longer. An early mistimed shot gets dragged to the leg side, while a late one squirts away behind square, so the direction of a bad shot also tells you which way you missed.

Timing gets harder as you climb. In later matches the bowlers run in faster and the Perfect window becomes narrower, so a timing habit you build early pays off later.

Read the Delivery

The bowler mixes five kinds of ball. Learning to spot them is the second big skill:

  • Good length: bounces in the middle of the pitch. The most common ball.
  • Full toss: does not bounce at all. The easiest ball to hit for six.
  • Short ball: pitches near the bowler's end and climbs high.
  • Yorker: lands right at your feet. Even a Perfect shot is less likely to clear the rope.
  • Slower ball: loopy and noticeably slower. It catches out players who swing on rhythm.

For every ball that bounces, a pulsing yellow ring appears on the pitch just before it lands. This is your best clue. A ring near the bowler means a short ball. A ring in the middle means good length. A ring right at your feet means a yorker. No ring at all means a full toss, so get ready to attack.

Pick the Right Side

Each delivery has a "correct" direction. Choosing it raises your chance of a six a lot. Choosing the wrong side cuts that chance nearly in half, even with Perfect timing. Use these rules (you bat right-handed, so the off side is on your left):

  • Yorker: play straight.
  • Short ball: pull it to the leg side, unless it is well wide outside off stump, in which case cut it to the off side.
  • Everything else: follow the line. Wide of off stump goes to the off side, drifting down leg goes to the leg side, and a ball at the stumps goes straight.

The ball also swings in the air, and the swing grows in later matches. Judge the line where the ball reaches you, not where it starts.

How to Pace a Chase

The first target of 18 needs only 1.5 runs a ball, but the Match 6 target of 48 needs 4 runs a ball, and the final target of 56 needs more than 4.6 per ball. That changes how you should bat:

  1. Early matches: do not force anything. A Good-timed shot in the right direction will usually bring a four or two, which is plenty.
  2. Protect your wickets: you only have two. Being bowled hurts most, so never leave a ball that is heading for the stumps; even an Early swing is better than a miss.
  3. Attack the gifts: full tosses and slower balls give the biggest six chance. When you see one, focus on timing and direction.
  4. Late in big chases: if you need 12 off 2, only sixes will do. Commit to your best timing and pick the correct side every time.

If you lose a chase, the game may offer a revive that adds one wicket, plus two extra balls if you had run out of deliveries.

Quick Practice Routine

  • Spend a few games aiming only for Perfect timing, ignoring direction.
  • Then add direction: say the ball type out loud ("short, pull") as the ring appears.

FAQ

How do I hit a six every time?

No shot is a guaranteed six, but Perfect timing plus the correct direction on a full toss gives you the best odds by far. Yorkers are the hardest ball to clear the boundary from, so take a four off them happily.

Why do I keep getting caught?

Catches come from mistimed shots. Early and Late swings are caught much more often than Good or Perfect ones, and Perfect shots are never caught. Work on timing before you worry about power.

Is it better to not swing at a ball?

Only if it is clearly missing the stumps. If you do not swing and the ball hits the stumps, you are bowled. Since you have just two wickets, a defensive swing is usually safer than leaving it.

Does the game get harder?

Yes. Targets rise, bowlers get quicker, the ball swings more, yorkers appear more often and the timing windows shrink in the first few matches until they settle at their hardest level.
