There are close to two hundred countries in the world, and most people can only point to a few dozen on a blank map. The good news is that learning the map is not about memorising a list. It is about building a mental picture region by region, using shapes, coastlines and neighbours as anchors. Once a few countries are fixed in your mind, the ones around them fall into place much faster.

This guide explains how World Map Quiz on GameChakra works and shares a practical method to learn countries on the map, from the big ones to the tiny islands.

How World Map Quiz Works

  • The game names a country, and you tap it on the world map.
  • Drag to move the map. Pinch or scroll to zoom in and out.
  • Each round has 10 countries. You have 3 lives for the whole game and 3 tries for each country.
  • A wrong tap shows the name of the country you tapped, so every mistake teaches you something. Wrong taps cost a try, not a life.
  • If you use all 3 tries, the answer is highlighted, the map moves to show it, and you lose one life.
  • Tapping the ocean, or a country outside the region you chose, does not count against you.
  • Very small countries are marked with a dot so you can see and tap them, with a generous tap area.

Modes

Choose Whole world or a single continent:

ModeCountries
Africa54
Asia47
Europe45
North America23
Oceania14
South America12

In Whole world mode, the first round only asks about the 40 largest countries. Each new round adds 40 more, smaller countries, until the whole world is in play. Continent modes include all of that continent's countries from the start.

Scoring

  • First try: 100 points, plus a speed bonus of up to 100 more if you answer quickly. The bonus shrinks over 20 seconds.
  • Second try: 60 points plus a smaller speed bonus. Third try: 30 points plus a smaller speed bonus.
  • Streak bonus: each first-try answer in a row adds 10 more points than the last, up to an extra 100.

So the best scores come from answering correctly on the first tap, quickly, many times in a row.

How to Learn Countries on the Map: 9 Tips

1. Start with one continent

Learning the whole world at once is overwhelming. Pick one continent mode and play it until you rarely miss. South America, with 12 countries, is a good first win. Then move to North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.

2. Anchor on the big countries first

Large countries are easy to find and make perfect landmarks: Brazil in South America, Canada and the United States in North America, Russia stretching across Europe and Asia (the game lists it under Europe), China in East Asia, Australia in Oceania, and Algeria and DR Congo in Africa. Whole world mode starts with large countries for exactly this reason.

3. Learn neighbours as a group

Countries are much easier to remember in clusters. Learn Spain and Portugal together, the three Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania from north to south) together, or the "-stan" countries of Central Asia together. When one is asked, you already know the area to look in.

4. Use coastlines and water

Seas and coasts are the strongest clues on a map. Italy is the boot in the Mediterranean, Chile is the long strip along the Pacific, Norway follows the western coast of Scandinavia, and Egypt sits in Africa's north-east corner, next to the Red Sea. Landlocked countries such as Bolivia, Paraguay, Mongolia, Chad or Switzerland are easier once you remember they have no coast.

5. Use shapes and stories

Many countries have memorable shapes. Italy's boot, Chile's ribbon, Japan's chain of islands and Madagascar off Africa's east coast stick in the mind. Inventing a small picture or story for a hard country, like "Malawi is the long thin one beside its lake", works well.

6. Zoom in for small countries

Europe, the Caribbean, Central America and West Africa are crowded with small countries. Zoom in before tapping instead of guessing from far away. Tiny island nations appear as dots; look for them in the Caribbean, the Pacific and the Indian Ocean.

7. Learn from every wrong tap

When you tap the wrong country, the game names it. Read that name and remember it: next time that country is asked, you will know exactly where it is. Mistakes are the fastest way to fill in the blank areas of your mental map.

8. Use your three tries wisely

A second-try answer still scores 60 points and keeps your life. If you are unsure, make your first tap in the most likely area, then use the name it shows to narrow down your next tap. Only the third miss costs a life.

9. Play a little every day

A few rounds a day builds memory better than one long session. Pair this game with our Flag Quiz and Daily Country Guess, and you will see the same countries from different angles: shape, flag and location.

Common Mistakes

  • Tapping without zooming. In crowded regions, a small slip lands on a neighbour.
  • Mixing up similar names. Austria and Australia, Niger and Nigeria, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau, Slovakia and Slovenia, Iran and Iraq are classic traps. Learn each pair together.
  • Guessing wildly on the first try. Make a sensible first tap so its name helps you on the next one.
  • Staying in Whole world mode too early. Focused continent practice builds knowledge faster.

FAQ

How many countries are in World Map Quiz?

Whole world mode includes 195 countries across the six continent groups shown above. It starts with the largest countries and adds smaller ones each round.

Do I lose a life for a wrong tap?

No. You have three tries per country. You only lose a life if all three tries are wrong.

What is the fastest way to learn the world map?

Learn one continent at a time, start with large countries as anchors, group neighbours together and practise a little every day.

How do I find tiny countries?
