Match-3 games are easy to start and surprisingly deep once the levels get tricky. Swap two neighbouring pieces, line up three of a kind, and watch them clear. But when a level gives you only 20 moves and a demanding goal, random swapping will not get you there. Strong players read the goal first, build special pieces on purpose and combine them for huge clears.

This guide uses Rangeela Match, our festive Indian-sweets match-3 game, to explain exactly how special pieces, cascades and goals work, and how to beat the levels that feel impossible.

How Rangeela Match Works

  • The board is an 8 ร— 8 grid of six sweets: laddoo, jalebi, barfi, gulab jamun, kaju katli and rasgulla. The first ten levels use only five of them, which makes matches easier.
  • Swipe a sweet toward a neighbour, or tap two neighbouring sweets, to swap them. A swap only counts if it makes a line of three or more. Otherwise the sweets swap back and no move is used.
  • Each level has a limited number of moves and one or more goals, shown at the top.
  • If you stop for about five seconds, the game hints at a possible move. If there are no moves left at all, the board shuffles itself for free.
  • Each sweet has its own shape as well as colour, which helps colour-blind players.

Level goals

  • Score: reach a target score.
  • Collect: clear a number of a particular sweet, for example 18 laddoos.
  • Rangoli tiles: clear sweets sitting on patterned tiles. Some tiles have two layers and must be cleared twice.
  • Bring diyas down: diya lamps start at the top of the board, and more drop in as earlier ones are collected. Clear the sweets beneath them so they fall, and they are collected when they reach the bottom row. Explosions cannot destroy them.

Later levels combine two or more goals at once. The first 30 levels are hand-designed, and new levels keep coming after that.

Special Sweets in Rangeela Match

MatchSpecial sweetWhat it does
4 in a row (across)Striped sweetClears its whole row when it goes off
4 in a column (down)Striped sweetClears its whole column when it goes off
L or T shapePhuljhadi (sparkler) bombClears the 3 ร— 3 square around it
5 in a lineMagic DiyaSwap it with a sweet to clear every sweet of that kind

A striped sweet or bomb goes off when it is part of a match or caught in another blast. A magic Diya caught in a blast clears the most common sweet on the board.

Special combos

Swapping two special sweets together always works, even without a match, and creates a much bigger blast:

  • Striped + striped: clears a full row and a full column in a cross.
  • Striped + sparkler bomb: clears three full rows and three full columns.
  • Bomb + bomb: clears a 5 ร— 5 area.
  • Magic Diya + striped or bomb: every sweet of that kind turns into that special, then they all go off.
  • Magic Diya + magic Diya: clears the entire board.

Scoring and Stars

  • Every sweet cleared is worth 60 points, multiplied by the cascade step. The first clear of a move is ร—1, the next chain reaction ร—2, then ร—3 and so on.
  • Making a special adds a bonus: 150 for a striped sweet, 240 for a sparkler bomb, 400 for a magic Diya.
  • Each rangoli tile layer adds 40, and each diya lamp brought down adds 500.
  • When you meet the goal with moves left, Rangeela Rush begins: up to four leftover moves turn into striped sweets that fire automatically, and every move still left after that is worth 250 points.
  • You earn one, two or three stars based on your final score.

Match 3 Game Tips: 10 Ways to Beat Hard Levels

1. Read the goal before your first move

A collect level wants lots of one sweet. A tile level wants clears in specific places. A diya level wants clears directly under the lamps. A score level wants specials and cascades. The best move on one level can be a wasted move on another.

2. Match near the bottom

Clearing low on the board moves everything above it, which creates more chance matches and more cascades. Since each cascade step multiplies points, bottom matches are worth more on average. On diya levels, bottom matches under a lamp also pull it down faster.

3. Look for 4s and 5s before 3s

Before taking the first three-match you see, scan the board for a swap that makes four or five, or an L or T shape. One special sweet is worth several ordinary moves.

4. Choose striped direction on purpose

In our game, four across makes a row-clearing stripe and four down makes a column-clearing stripe. Column stripes are great for tiles in one column and for dropping diyas; row stripes are better for clearing a whole bottom line.

5. Save specials for combos

Don't fire a special the moment you make it if another special is nearby. Two specials swapped together are far stronger than both fired separately. A striped sweet next to a sparkler bomb is a three-rows-and-three-columns blast waiting to happen.

6. Use the magic Diya on the goal sweet

On a collect level, swap the magic Diya with the sweet you need. On other levels, swap it with the most common sweet, or with a striped sweet or bomb for a board-wide blast.

7. Work from the edges on tile levels

Corner and edge tiles are the hardest to reach because fewer matches touch them. Clear those while you have plenty of moves, and leave central tiles, which specials can reach easily, for later.

8. Don't waste moves on cosmetic matches

Every move counts. If a match does nothing for the goal and creates nothing special, look again. Leftover moves are not wasted either: they become Rangeela Rush points.

9. Watch the move counter

The moves number turns red when you have five or fewer. At that point, stop building and go straight for the goal.

10. Replay for three stars

Once you have beaten a level, replaying it with a plan focused on specials and cascades is the best way to reach three stars.

Common Mistakes

  • Taking the first match you see. Scan for bigger matches first.
  • Firing specials one by one. Combining them is much more powerful.
  • Ignoring the goal. A high score does not help if the tiles or diyas are still there.
  • Matching only at the top. Top matches rarely cause cascades.

FAQ

How do I make a striped sweet?

Match four in a straight line. Four across makes a row-clearing stripe, four down makes a column-clearing stripe.

What does the magic Diya do?

Made from five in a line, it clears every sweet of the kind you swap it with. Swapped with another special, it turns all sweets of that kind into that special.

Can I swap two specials without a match?

Yes. Any two specials, or a magic Diya with any sweet, can always be swapped, and the swap triggers a combo blast.

What happens if I run out of moves?

The level fails. You may be offered five extra moves to continue; otherwise, try again with a new plan.
